Hi, I’m Traci! When I was pregnant with my first baby (28years ago), I was young and scared. I was treated like a child and told I didn’t know anything. I was belittled, coerced, and made to feel like I was someone other than someone in control of their birth. I “fell” into the system not knowing what I didn’t know.
While educating myself for the birth of my next baby 15 months later, I was determined to find education that was evidence based to make decisions for my birth and what was best for my baby which was the missing piece of the first birth. I was shocked and angered that I wasn’t shown my options for a better birth. I realized during this time that if I couldn’t find this information, others were probably having a hard time too.
This is the reason I dove into guiding families to having empowering births of their own. So many times, I speak with pregnant people who are frustrated with wishing they knew more. Whether giving birth for the first time or planning the next, do not find yourself falling into the system.

- Preparing for labor (e.g., importance of prenatal care, healthy pregnancy practices, and preparing the body for labor through movement and body balancing, minimizing risks)
- Labor and birth overview (e.g., understanding signs of labor, getting into labor, contraction patterns, emotional responses to labor, timing considerations and when to go to the hospital, the stages of labor and pushing, fetal position, warning signs and when to seek medical assistance)
- Finding comfort in labor (i.e., comfort measures and support team)
- Medical interventions and preparing for the unexpected (e.g., inductions, pain relief interventions, cesareans and understanding VBAC considerations)
- Overview of early postpartum procedures and care (e.g., immediate postpartum care, maternal recovery, what to expect for early newborn feeding, breast changes and breastfeeding support, things to consider after returning home, when to reach out for medical support)

The details
- Private course 5 weeks in person, by zoom or hybrid. The 5th class is a labor rehearsal for solidifying plans for the big day. Hired Doulas by the family are welcome to the labor rehearsal.
- Scheduled to the convenience of the family.
- This class is best started about 18 weeks if the education and prenatal journey has just started and considerations of finding a care provider is needed.
- Can be started later for an accelerated process but should be finished by 36 weeks.
